The Weekly Quickie: Varyl, VAASTU, Silver Linings, Jiluka, Sel’m, Lacroix Despheres, FALUNN
Even more disbandments to report this week (I’m really getting sick of this, are you?). Varyl vocalist, Hiro, announced on his blog that the group will be calling it quits following their live on January 8. Guitarist Juri had expressed the need to leave due to home circumstances and the band just simply can’t see continuing without all their members. There are still a TON of performances left on their schedule, so make sure to hit up a couple before the end.
VAASTU have also announced their disbandment after their final live in December. You may remember they lost their bassist, SHIORI, just this August and, while they didn’t explicitly state this as a reason, I’m sure it was a factor in their decision. Their final show will take place at Shibuya REX on December 15.
After only two years together, Silver Linings will be disbanding after their sponsored live on December 14 at Ikebukuro EDGE. There was no solid reasoning given for the breakup, but the band expresses their regrets and we hope to see the members in new projects soon.
Heavy metal rockers (and my favorite new discovery of the year) Jiluka have announced the release of a new single in November. The two-track single, Lluvia, releases November 11. If you haven’t picked up their first mini-album, DESTRIEB, I highly recommend you do so. These guys are fantastic.
Sel’m have announced the release of their third album, Reirou, on October 21. The album will include 11 tracks and run you 3000yen. This is a band frought with lineup changes and issues, so we are excited to see it’s not holding them back.
Melodic metal band, Lacroix Despheres, have announced their very first overseas performance in November. They will be appearing at HYPER Japan Christmas Market in London along with fellow Japanese performers Wing Works, Lady Baby and Shironuri goddess, Minori. The event will be held November 27-29 at Tobacco Dock, London.
You may recall fairly recently the announcement of a new band, SHIVA, made up of members of Crimson Shiva. Well, just to make things a little more confusing, they have now changed their name to FALUNN. Their first single under their new name, Kaura no Mangetsu, releases tomorrow, September 22.
And that’s the Quickie. Ciao.
